: Using Encouragement to Build Self-Esteem
In this workshop, participants will learn specific ways to foster self-esteem and develop children’s natural strengths, for instance using praise versus encouragement. Our speaker, Lynne Laffie, is an educator who is well known throughout the North Shore and Merrimack Valley as an early childhood and professional development consultant who helps parents, educators, and childcare providers learn and apply positive ways of dealing with the negative behavior of children and teenagers. The meeting is on Wednesday May 19 at Greater Visions Children’s Center (St. Vartanantz Church) located at 180 Old Westford Road, Chelmsford, MA. The meeting starts with social hour at 6:45pm and speaker at 7:30pm. General meetings are free and are open to mothers of children from birth to age ten. Both non-members and  members are encouraged to attend.

Jordan’s Furniture, a long-time champion for children in state foster care, is hosting A Walk Home: the Walk for Adoption on Sunday morning, May 16 at the Jordan’s Furniture’s Taunton facility. The Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) is organizing the Walk for Adoption to raise funds and friends for its work to recruit adoptive parents for children and teens in state foster care. Over 2,000 local children are currently growing up in temporary foster care while waiting for permanent, safe, loving homes. MARE’s programs to find potential adoptive families include Wednesday’s Child on WBZ TV, children’s profiles in newspapers statewide, and the Heart Gallery portrait exhibit displayed in libraries, stores, and shopping malls. Through these public programs and behind the scenes work, MARE has helped more than 5,400 children leave foster care for permanent families over the past 52 years.
